To use OBDCOM, you need ALL of the
following:
| |
|
| 1. |
A
laptop or desktop computer running
Windows 98, 2000, XP, or VISTA. |
|
| |
|
| 2. |
The
computer must have a Serial Port, also called a COM port.
Look VERY closely at the picture to the right. This is what a COM
port looks like. There should be NINE pins sticking out.
OBDCOM plugs directly in to this port. If you do not have this COM
port, see "OR" below... |
 |
|
OR, FOR USB |
|
| |
If you do not have
a COM port, you will need this
exact brand USB-to-Serial adaptor shown here to the
right. It is a
Keyspan model USA-19HS
or Keyspan model
USA-19QW. That is the only adapter we support and the only one
we know works 100% with this system. We have tested many others,
and they do not meet the precise timing requirements of vehicle
communications. All other usb adaptors on the
market are not supported by us. This adaptor can
also be found in stores, and cheaper on ebay (click
here for ebay listings). Sorry, at this time we do not sell the
adaptor, you will need to get it separately. |

|
| 3. |
You
must have a vehicle that is compatible with OBDCOM. Your vehicle
manufacturer must be listed on the main page of our site.
Double-check the list again here.
Also make sure your vehicle is not one of the ones listed as not
compatible. |
